From natural disasters to a global pandemic, we have endured quite a lot as a society over the last few years. As we come to the end of 2022, we have a great opportunity to reflect on what we have achieved in the face of adversity. Cadet units across the country have proven to be strong and capable. With the many challenges that have been thrown at them in recent years, they continue to show remarkable resilience and adaptability. The different restrictions from state to state meant different models of operation – some units were able to operate as usual, while others adjusted to going online for parade using modern technology, or going old-school and using snail mail!

Inaugural Patron of the ADF Cadets, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK AC(Mil) CVO MC, has introduced himself to the more than 28,000 cadets and their families in a new video message. The Navy, Army and Air Force Cadets are Defence’s leading youth development programs, supporting 13- to 18-year-olds through activities that help them thrive in a team environment, improve communication skills and become responsible members of the local community. The former Chief of the Defence Force and Governor-General of Australia will visit units across the country to support the cadets and raise awareness of the experiences that the programs provide. “I’m honoured to once again put on a uniform to support our young people through activities that help them thrive and become responsible members of their local community,” Sir Peter said.
