What does SAAB Australia do?
SAAB is a complex systems integration company in Australia that employs more than 500 staff and subcontract work to more than 200 local companies. SAAB Australia provides command and control, command support, security and surveillance, and air traffic management systems.
They are delivering an air transportable hospital capability (based near Amberley in SE Qld) as well as support to the RAN for undersea combat, combat systems for ships, weapons and cyber warfare.
What activities can SAAB offer?
SAAB is open to considering any request for a visit providing timing can be mutually agreed. Note that many of their staff are working on sites owned by Defence and other companies. The activity is open to negotiation, but will generally include some or all of the following depending on location and facilities available:
- Met on arrival at the facility and introduction to SAAB operations at the locality
- Familiarisation with the Defence support work being undertaken at the site
- Personal experience by a younger SAAB staff member on what it is like to work in SAAB and similar companies
- A hands on activity related to the operations at that facility
- Overview of broader career opportunities in SAAB and entry requirements
- Provide some education materials on SAAB Australia
Where can they offer activities?
SAAB Australia’s key sites are in Adelaide area (Mawson Lakes) and in West Australia at Rockingham. SAAB speaker(s) could potentially attend a Cadet Unit in Adelaide or Perth.
In the future (2023+) there may be an opportunity for a visit to be conducted of the air mobile medical facility in SE Qld (Ipswich area).
