CDR-AAFC Selection Criteria
Applicants for the position of Commander-Australian Air Force Cadets (AAFC) are to address each criterion in the application:

1.1 Possess and be able to articulate a positive vision for the AAFC including an ability to lead the organisation in accordance with its objectives.
1.2 Possess the acumen and social attributes necessary to effectively represent the AAFC and the Air Force in a variety of settings, with a focus on reputation management and governance.
1.3 Demonstrated leadership capabilities including being focused, authentic and an enabler of others whilst meeting and maintaining all legislative and policy requirements.
1.4 Proven ability to successfully and appropriately manage a range of issues, challenges and people from diverse backgrounds.
1.5 An ability to lead, influence and manage cultural change that aligns with AAFC values.
2.1 Time to devote an average of at least 18 hours per week to the position.
2.2 Flexibility to travel interstate (on average once per month).
2.3 Capacity to attend weekend activities (on average twice per month).
3.1 Have previous experience working with a Work Health and Safety Management System (at a management level) and knowledge of the Work Health and Safety Act (Cth) 2011, the Work Health and Safety Regulations 2011 (Cth) and relevant Codes of Practice.
3.2 Have a demonstrated understanding of the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations, the requirements of the Commonwealth Child Safe Framework and the Defence Youth Policy Manual.
4.1 Potential to successfully lead a national volunteer organisation with a prime focus on youth development.
4.2 Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse range of adult volunteers.
4.3 Demonstrated achievements in managing a youth development program.
4.4 Highly developed organisational skills including the ability to coordinate a complex range of competing tasks, set priorities, deliver outputs, meet timelines and demonstrate initiative.
4.5 An understanding of diversity and inclusion policy and principles as well as an ability to apply them in the AAFC environment.
4.6 Demonstrated ability to work within a ‘virtual’ organisation.
5.1 Ability to contribute to policy development within the AAFC and ADF Cadet environments.
5.2 Ability to successfully implement Air Force and AAFC policy and procedures.
5.3 Demonstrated initiative and self-motivation with a strong commitment to working constructively within a multi layered environment.
5.4 Understanding of and demonstrated ability in conflict resolution management.
6.1 Demonstrate superior written and oral communication skills.
6.2 The ability to liaise and to negotiate effectively within the AAFC and external stakeholders.
7.1 Experience in aviation or the aerospace industry.
7.2 Experience in working with uniformed services.
7.3 Experience with an ADF Cadets organisation.
7.4 Experience with the training and education of youth.
Notes
- A person who is prohibited or disqualified from child-related employment under child protection legislation will not be engaged or retained in the Commander’s position. Background checks, including relevant criminal and employment records and apprehended violence orders, may be conducted on short-listed applicants. The successful applicant must read the Youth Safe Code of Conduct and undertake to comply with it and to make a Working with Children Declaration (to the effect that they have not been convicted of a disqualifying offence).
- This is a child-related position. It is an offence under State and Federal legislation for a person convicted of certain offences to apply for child-related employment. The successful applicant must obtain a Working with Children clearance (or relevant State or Territory equivalent).
