What does RAAF Museum do?

The Royal Australian Air Force Museum is located at RAAF Base Point Cook, near Melbourne.

Point Cook is the birthplace of the Australian Flying Corps (AFC), which was renamed to the Royal Australian Air Force following its success in World War I. RAAF Base Point Cook was the Air Force's only base from 1912 to 1925, when RAAF Base Richmond and RAAF Base Laverton were built.

Today, the RAAF Museum pays tribute to the history of the Air Force, and houses an extensive collection of memorabilia and stories of Australia's military aviation expeditions.

The Museum can provide a great introduction to the history of Air Force training, advancements in military aircraft, the role of Air Force personnel, women in the Air Force, local and overseas missions, etc.

There is also an exciting collection of retired Air Force aircraft, such as those used for training, strike, reconnaissance, and air and sea rescues.

What activities can the RAAF Museum Offer?

The Royal Australian Air Force Museum is located at RAAF Base Point Cook, near Melbourne.

The museum conducts an interactive flying display at 1pm (1300) every Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday for visitors.[3] Aircraft include the museum's own CA-18 Mustang, North American Harvard, CAC Winjeel, CT4A Trainer, DH Tiger Moth, Replica Royal Aircraft Factory R.E.8 and Replica Sopwith Pup. Also visiting aircraft from other museums and operators participate in these displays, once the flying display is completed the pilots land and then hold an interactive discussion with the spectators answering any questions they may have.

The Museum is open Tuesday to Friday: 10am - 3pm and weekends and Public Holidays: 10am - 5pm

The Museum provides guided tours for groups - Tuesday to Friday only. These give the visitor a unique insight into Australian aviation history, the Air Force and RAAF Base Point Cook. Guided tours are conducted by RAAF Museum trained volunteer host officers.
