The Squadron is proudly associated with the Sherwood-Indooroopilly RSL sub-branch and the Sherwood Services Club (now Westside HQ) in Corinda, South East Queensland, where it is based and from whom it receives generous support. The Squadron also proudly supports these organisations by participating in ceremonial occasions such as ANZAC Day, Remembrance Day, the Boer War Memorial and Kokoda Day.
218 Squadron’s motto “Above the Rest” encapsulates its well-deserved reputation for excellence in making an invaluable contribution to helping to prepare and equip young people for community life and future success. We do this by providing training and experiential development programs that foster self-confidence, initiative, leadership, discipline, teamwork, communication and a sense of loyalty and good citizenship.
The Australian Air Force Cadets is the premier youth organisation with an aviation focus in Australia and our cadets are exposed to all aspects of aviation, both military and civil. They get the opportunity to learn about our rich Australian aviation history, the theory of flight, aircraft recognition, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (“UAVs”), air navigation, meteorology, and more. Some cadets can get the opportunity to learn to fly aircraft including gliders and powered aircraft. In addition to aviation related activities our cadets also learn and develop the theory and practice of good leadership, instructional technique and business management. They also experience field craft, survival, shooting and many other activities, all conducted in a safe, structured and disciplined environment.
Our Squadron aims to develop community-minded leaders and to foster a lifelong interest in all things aviation.
