About 334 Squadron
The Australian Air Force Cadets (AAFC) is a youth-development organisation that is administered and actively supported by the Royal Australian Air Force.
334 Squadron is one of four AAFC Squadrons in the Australian Capital Territory. The Squadron was formed in 1992 and currently parades with between 80-100 cadets. The Squadron is fortunate to be located on an Australian Defence Force base (HMAS Harman) where we have our own headquarters area which is shared with other local cadet units.
334 Squadron conducts one recruit intake per year at the start of each calendar year. Expressions of Interest open in September/October in the year prior to commencement. We accept young men and women and instruct them in aviation, service knowledge, team building, drill, personal development, fieldcraft, survival, rifle shooting, and several other subjects. As well as our regular Wednesday night training parades during school terms, we also run a wide variety of weekend activities. These include gliding weekends, firearms training and live firing exercises, and bivouacs (our term for 'going bush'). Our cadets also have the opportunity to attend Wing camps and courses, such as powered and glider flying training, and promotion courses during school holidays. Many of these holiday camps and courses are conducted at RAAF bases throughout New South Wales.
During their time in the Squadron, cadets will experience a range of activities that are beneficial to themselves now and into the future. Many 334 Squadon cadets have gone onto successful careers both in the Australian Defence Force and in civilian life.
