Unit History:
13 Flight, Air Training Corps first paraded on Thursday 2 February 1967 with 30 members under the command of Flying Officer Stewart Johns, at the RAAF Depot (No 2 Stores Depot) in Palmer St, Dubbo. Their first bivouac held at Orange Rifle Range on 18 March 1967 with 15 out of the then 33 members.
On 25th August 1967, 6 of the 50 cadets attended their first General Service Training camp at RAAF Richmond and 4 members attended JNCO promotion courses.
The Flight was officially established on 20 June 1967. In 1982, female cadets were permitted to parade within the Air Training Corps. In 2001, 13 Flight was changed to 313 Squadron with the restructuring of the Air Training Corps to the Australian Air Force Cadets. On 16th November 2002, the Squadron hosted a visit from the then Chief of Air Force, Air Chief Marshall Angus Houston. On 20 June 2007, 313 Squadron was first granted Freedom of Entry to the City of Dubbo by the Mayor, Councillor Allan Smith.
On 18 November 2017, 313 (City of Dubbo) Squadron exercised their right to the Freedom of Entry to the City of Dubbo, in line with the 50th Anniversary of the establishment of the unit. In doing so, the unit also consecrated its new banner.
The No. 313 Squadron unit badge features a rhino as the central element. The Rhino was chosen as a symbol of strength and power as well as being representative of the local Dubbo community in which we operate. The Rhino, placed in profile against a desert red background descending from the local Wiradjrui people where Dubbo loosely translates to ‘Red Earth’.
In 2017, this new badge replaced the previous logo which was partially inherited as a descendant from the RAAF No 2 Store Depot.
