2025 RECRUITMENT INTAKE NOW CLOSED
No. 508 (City of Launceston) Squadron is based out of Paterson Barracks on Saint John Street in the CBD of Launceston. We parade every Thursday evening 1800 - 2120hrs (6pm-9:20pm) during the Tasmanian school terms. For cadets wishing to partake in the drumming elective this begins at 1730hrs (5:30pm) on a parade night.
Located in our historic building that originally started out as a Commissariat Store in 1828, the Squadron's focus is on youth development and providing an engaging cadet experience through our diverse range of subjects, with a large focus on aerospace.
508 Squadron has a plentiful and exciting calendar, running optional activities on many weekends throughout the year. These activities include fieldcraft, aeromodelling, survival, flying, ceremonial parades, community service, drones, shooting, team building and leadership development, and much more.
Our staff have a diverse background in fields like education, support work, aviation, law, and a large number of them were cadets themselves! We also have multiple qualified Award Leaders for the Duke of Edinburgh Award facilitating our participants' ability to complete all necessary components through our activities.
508 Squadron's annual recruiting intake opens in Term 4, for cadets commencing in the following year. Each intake culminates in a training weekend with an overnight stay in late Term 1.
We schedule Open Nights in Term 4 of each year where you can meet the staff, have a tour of our facilities and we can answer any questions you have. Dates for future Open Nights will be made available in Term 3.
Our recruiting intake for 2025 is now closed, as we have reached capacity. If you are interested in finding out more, or joining the wait list for our 2026 intake, please send us an email. We look forward to hearing from you.
