601 Squadron has a proud legacy that dates back to its origins as No. 1 Flight, formed in January 1946. Beginning at the Teachers’ Training College in North Adelaide, the squadron later moved to Keswick Barracks, where its first Squadron Band was established. Over the decades, 601 Squadron has built a tradition of excellence in leadership and community service, reflecting the rich symbolism and heritage celebrated in its milestones, such as the blessing of its Squadron Banner—a testament to its enduring contributions to the Australian Air Force Cadets.
