More Information
No. 501 Squadron is based out of the Multi-User Depot on Loyd Lane, Dowsings Point, next to Derwent Barracks and the racecourse. We parade every Thursday evening from 1800 - 2100hrs (6 pm-9 pm) during the Tasmanian school terms.
501 Squadron boasts modern facilities featuring updated spacious classrooms and a large building for indoor training in inclement weather. Our Squadron focuses on youth development by providing an engaging cadet experience through our diverse range of subjects. 501 Squadron is also an accredited Ticket to Play provider.
501 Squadron is an inclusive and supportive squadron that offers an exciting selection of activities throughout the year. These activities include fieldcraft, aeromodelling, drill, survival, flying, ceremonial parades, community service, drones, firearms training, team building and leadership development, and much more.
Our staff have a diverse background in fields like military, education, support work, and aviation, and a large number of them were cadets themselves! We also have a qualified Duke of Edinburgh Award co-ordinator.
Our next official intake will begin on our first weekly parade night of Term 1, Thursday 6th of February 2025. Please still feel free to submit an expression of interest/attend a parade night any week of this term, as we're happy to have you.
If you are interested in joining as either a cadet or an adult supervisor (staff), or you might be a parent/guardian of an interested person, please see the information on this website about how to apply or email us!
