323 Squadron - Glenbrook

323 Squadron is located opposite the main gate of RAAF Base Glenbrook. The unit parades on Wednesday Evenings opening at 1800h (6pm) during school terms. No.323SQN has a dynamic training environment with a focus on giving opportunities to cadets to learn unique skills and the fundamentals of flight.

In your first year at 323SQN you will be giving the opportunity to:

- Learn drill and parade at public events.

- Go out bush for overnight camps and train in survival and fieldcraft.

- Work as a team to achieve goals in service of the community.

- Be taught about aviation and have the opportunity to fly.

The Squadron is based close to the Great Western Highway in Lapstone inbetween Greater Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains. 323SQN is greatly assisted by RAAF Base Glenbrook and is surrounded by bushland where some training is undertaken.

323 Squadron has been the recipient of the NSW RAAF Association Most Efficient Squadron Award from 2018 to 2020 and 2022 being Runner Up in 2021 and 3 Wing Squadron of the Year for 2022 and 2023.

HISTORY

323SQN, formerly 23 Flight, was formed at Penrith High School in 1952 with strength of 30, at that point in time it was the only Cadet Unit in Sydney’s greater west. In 1971 the unit moved to an ex-Royal Australian Air Force property at 121 Dunheved Circuit in St Marys where it remained until early 2001. At this point in time the unit moved to a temporary facility at Defence Establishment Orchard Hills. Finally in late 2001 the unit gratefully moved to its current location at RAAF Base Glenbrook.

In 2016, 323SQN was officially granted Freedom of the City of Blue Mountains by Mayor Cr. Mark Greenhill OAM, citing various community service work and the commendation for our efforts during the 2013 Winmalee bush fires.
