Where are we?
308SQN is based at Scobie Training Depot, Harvey Rd, Rutherford
308SQN has its origins back in WW2. The unit began parading on the 5 Dec 41 as No3 Flight of 33 SQN under the New South Wales Banner of 2 Wing. In Nov 45 the NSW 2 Wing was reduced to SQN status and as such became NSW SQN ATC. 8 Flight itself was established on 20 June 46 and operated at Scots College, Bellevue Hill, Sydney.
The unit was disbanded as part of the Government’s decision to discontinue Cadet Training on 30 Sep 75. The unit was reestablished in accordance with Act No 138 of 1976 which amended the Air Force Act of 1923 that established the body known as the Air Training Corps.
During the 1980s the Unit continued to parade at Scots College, Bellevue Hill. 8 Flight was reformed at Rutherford in October 1989 operating from Rutherford Aerodrome. The unit moved to its current location at Scobie Training Depot on 6 Oct 89. In July 2001 with the restructure of the Defence Force Cadets 8 Flight became 308SQN AAFC.
